Four Universities unite behind Portsmouth’s UK City of Culture 2029 bid

Four universities are backing Portsmouth’s bid to become UK City of Culture 2029, highlighting the strength of the partnerships behind our shared ambition and belief in culture as a driver of lasting change.
The University of Portsmouth, University of Chichester, University of Southampton and University of Winchester have come together to support the bid and champion the role culture can play in creating brighter futures, driving innovation, and nurturing talent.
Their backing reflects the South Coast region working together to create opportunities for young people, attract investment, celebrate creativity, and build a legacy that lasts well beyond 2029. It demonstrates how organisations are coming together behind a shared vision for the South.
Watch the film to hear why the universities believe Portsmouth’s story deserves to be told on a national and international stage and why they are proud to stand behind We Are Pompey 2029.
